Closing in on 1800

Day 725 - December 26, 2010

Back on track! The last 10 days have been good for my running. I've logged 56 miles capped with a 12 mile run on Christmas. I now need just 23 miles to reach 1800 for the year. At this point, I have no excuse for not making it. Its hard for me to believe that last year was my best ever at 1460 - 340 less than I should run this year.

It's been a great year for me and I hope I can keep it going into 2011.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and has a Happy New Year.

SNOW!!!

Day 715 - December 16, 2010

I love the first run in snow each year. I even managed to stay vertical today - not an easy feat on 3 inches of packed down snow and ice. I definitely ran slower, but it was great being out in the white stuff.

Monday Night Football

Day 712 - December 13, 2010

My running has sucked lately. It has been cold, dark, and my motivation has been in the toilet since the marathon ended. I've fallen off the pace for breaking 1800 miles for the year. I've just felt blah. I was afraid today was going to add to the suckitude of the last 6 weeks.

After a long day at work and my daughter's dance recital, the last thing I wanted to do was go out and run with the temps in the low 20's and the wind blowing more than 20. So I compromised and got on the treadmill before the football game started. I decided I would run until the end of the first quarter and increase the pace every time there was a change in possession. The pregame took 13 minutes before they finally kicked off. The next "15" minutes of the first quarter lasted for 38 minutes. I didn't really mind - it was a great way to break up the monotony of the treadmill and I ran an extra 2.5 miles I wasn't counting on today. I started at just over 8 min pace and finished running under 7:30's, which isn't bad for me indoors.

I'm hoping I'll turn this thing around - I'm only 6 miles off the 1800 pace, so I can make it up if I don't waste any days. If this weather doesn't break soon, I may wear out our treadmill - it has just been too cold for too many days (I'm in Virginia and a sissy I know). All of you in really cold areas could cry me a river if your tears wouldn't freeze before they got down your cheeks :)
