My streak finally came to an end January 4, 2013. The cause - international travel. Multiple delayed flights, an inability to find an alleged workout facility in the Frankfurt airport, and an eight hour time change all conspired to me missing the first day in 4 years and 4 days.

Since the streak ended, I've been mostly ok with it. For all of January I managed to maintain my training, running at least 6 days a week, and being satisfied with all that was accomplished. February has been a bit lackadaisical and I missed far more days than I care to admit. So I am refocusing in March, getting in some longer run and aiming for more quality runs. I don't plan to commit to another streak, at least for now, but I am aiming to get back to normal for the spring and summer.

Thank you to all who supported me and my crazy need to work my schedule around planned runs and last minutes miles. I will continue to post occasionally and am making an effort to keep a camera with me on future runs and do a better job of sharing.
I don't think I've ever gotten to 100 miles in the first 14 days of the month. 104 miles for 2012 already!Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-19060472454473256872012-01-07T15:53:00.002-05:002012-01-07T15:57:37.059-05:00I should have listenedEver have that feeling that your body is telling you today is not the day for a long run? I should have listened. I had a feeling I wasn't properly hydrated for today's run and after about 9 miles, I knew it. There was no way to shorten the run either. I had my wife drop me off at the Target shopping center and I was running a direct route home and I forgot to bring my cell phone. So, no short cuts, no bailing out and getting a ride back. I was able to finish without cramping up, but the last couple of miles were really tough and way off pace. I hit the 17 mile mark and walked the last quarter home.

Probably was bit more than I should have attempted given that today's run puts me at 54 miles for the first week of the year. Too big a jump.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-80165837212902015932012-01-05T22:06:00.002-05:002012-01-05T22:15:46.348-05:00Day 1100Funny. On my way to the trails, I decided to add some roads and would park a mile or so from the trail head and bump my mileage up to 12. I ended up parking farther away than I thought, and as I was running to the trails got the idea to extend the run out to 14.92 miles - you know, in honor of the more <strike>in</strike>famous Chris. Yes, I'm pretty sure that moves me up a few notches on the dork scale.

Anyway, the run ended up being exactly 14.92 miles and I finished in just under 2:13.

To make this even more ridiculous, I noticed on my Garmin that I had started the run at 10:10 am on October 10th.

I think I need to go back to work, I've got too much time on my hands this weekend.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-434243602622841852011-10-09T13:26:00.001-04:002011-10-09T13:28:17.639-04:00Dancing with SnakesDay 1012 - October 9, 2011

Did the snake dance today - you know the one where you realize you are about to step on a copperhead and somehow throw yourself to the side, manage to stay upright, and keep running. I think it was dead, but I didn't go back to check it out. Dog bites are bad enough- don't need to add venomous snakes to the list.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-8411075342925704452011-10-08T21:35:00.001-04:002011-10-08T21:36:26.899-04:00Sick and still runningDay 1011 - October 8, 2011

Kept the streak going today despite a nasty cold - the run was actually the best I felt all day.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-45361691022814858102011-09-29T21:32:00.001-04:002011-09-29T21:33:22.270-04:00Two more milesDay 1002 - September 29, 2011

Just couple of miles - keeping the streak alive. All the anticipation of tomorrow's big run...and an early gift. Today I received confirmation that my 2012 Boston marathon registration was accepted. I can't believe it. What an awesome way to get to the 1000th day.

Today's run was out at Chris Greene Lake. 6.25 miles.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-26071935593894751002011-09-25T20:22:00.002-04:002011-09-25T20:25:51.700-04:00Pouring RAINDay 998 - September 25, 2011

Something different each day as I approach day 1000. Today was rain - and lots of it. While I waited for the wide to return and take over kid duty, I jumped on the treadmill and got in 2 miles. I figured I would then go out and run 4 outside, then come back and finish up on the treadmill. At the time, it was just a light drizzle and I figured I wouldn't get that wet. WRONG. It dumped on me. Once I was soaked, there was no reason to head back in for the mill, so I added on 4 miles and got in 10 today. Good stuff. 19 miles short of 1000 for the year.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-43082109918223894582011-09-24T17:46:00.002-04:002011-09-24T17:48:34.245-04:00Three days to 1000Day 997 - September 24, 2011

Today was a treadmill day to get the run in - may try and go back out later, but not going to hold my breath on that one. Still have a shot at 1000 miles for the year by Tuesday, but I'll have to commit to a long run.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-38885483848172501652011-09-23T19:41:00.002-04:002011-09-23T19:43:13.621-04:00Good News!Day 996 - September 23, 2011

Dr. says I don't need the rabies vaccine unless the dog becomes symptomatic. Tonight it was a large (100+ pound) pit bull. Came running out of no where and nailed me on the left leg. I thought this one was going to end very badly. Fortunately, it let go quickly. It started to come back, and I thought I was done. I braced myself for the attack and it backed down. Neighbors from all the houses came out from all the yelling and the dog ran off.

I can't even imagine if I had been a kid. That dog would have killed them. I don't understand why anyone would keep an aggressive dog.

6 Days to go. :(Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-19170536086192576442011-09-20T20:40:00.002-04:002011-09-20T20:42:22.299-04:00One week to goDay 993 - September 20, 2011

The final week is here! Today was three miles on the treadmill. The goal is to completely over do it and see if I can get to 1000 miles for the year on the day I get to 1000 days. I need 42 miles :) Totally in reach!Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-83866175726097618962011-09-17T19:43:00.002-04:002011-09-17T19:47:46.162-04:00Day 990 - What!!!September 17, 2011 - Day 990

Ten days to go.....this is unbelievable to me. 1000 days is about to become a reality.

Tonight was a very cool fall evening. Humidity was down and despite being very tired from a busy Saturday, I felt pretty good. The deer were out taking advantage of the cool night as well. We had 7 doe in the back yard as I was getting ready to go. I then saw three more buck during the run....something I would have missed if I had not been out there logging another day.

I have to say that the run streak is getting pretty cool being this close to 1000. Looking forward to the next 10 days.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3028709110623157031.post-45391453081088830872011-08-14T07:46:00.002-04:002011-08-14T07:48:39.652-04:00Congratulations PerryAugust 14, 2011

I have failed to reach 100 miles in each of the last three months and I am progressively getting slower - at least 30 seconds a mile worse than this point last year. I'm also at least 15 pounds heavier than I want to be. It is time for a change. Limping through the last 58 days until I reach 1000 is not acceptable.

So, that will be my motivation. Tomorrow, on August 1, I post the before photo. Then I'm going to bust my ass for the next 58 days and see where I get. On September 27, I'll post the after. In August, I plan to log at least 125 miles and drop 10 pounds. Let's see if I can get this thing back on track.Chrishttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17566468902119032442noreply@blogger.com0
